Tragedy at Nantymoel RFC

Dear Pickwick Players, many of you know Nantymoel RFC as one of the most memorable clubs who visited us in the past. Since a couple of weeks we're discussing with Gareth to plan another visit of their youth team spring 2011, but two weeks ago a tragedy occurred when a car with five of their youth players crashed. Two of the lads died (Michael and James) but fortunately the other three made it out alive, we can all imagine what a terrible shock this must be for them and the whole community. Below a passage of the heartbreaking we received:

"It is so warming to hear that our friendship and memories at both clubs still exists after all these years. I was only 15 when we first came to your club and clearly remember the great welcome and friendly spirit, not to mention drinking beer out of a watering can, I can still taste it.

I hope to give you a call very soon however the whole community especially Nantymoel RFC is in mourning due to the death of two of our youth team last Saturday in a road traffic accident, fortunately 3 players survived, one being my son. This is a huge blow to us all and we are helping the families to prepare for the lads funerals to give them a good send off.

I have attached a photo of our youth team, we lost our captain and vice captain to his left, both wonderful children and a credit to their families and club.

speak to you soon, or I will flood this computer with tears."

On the picture below you see the youth team, with on it the two boys (James, captain with ball and Michael, vice captain to his left) who passed away.

last Saturday his teammates also launched two firework rockets up in the air at kick-off time, from the hill overlooking their playgrounds. All games were cancelled out of respect for these two young boys…..

We've expressed our deepest sympathy to Gareth, his rugbyclub and the local community.  Micheal's funeral is today, and James will be laid to rest on Saturday. Let's give their teammates a warm "Pickwick Players" welcome when they visit us, they can use all the support possible at this moment!

ps. this written in English so the people from Nantymoel RFC are also able to read it.
